Understanding Pet Mesh and Pet Screens

While pet screens also serve as insect screens, only one type will effectively prevent your pets from escaping.

If you’re looking to pet-proof your windows, it’s important to understand the differences between pet mesh, pet screens, and standard insect screens.

What is Pet Mesh?

All screens in our Flyscreen Supreme range (excluding roller screens) are available with pet mesh. We recommend pet mesh for clients who want to keep their pets safely indoors while allowing windows to remain open.

Unlike standard flyscreen mesh, pet mesh is designed to be durable, resisting clawing and scratching. In contrast, insect mesh can be easily damaged by a determined dog or cat trying to get out.

Our pet mesh is made from woven strands of stainless steel and powder-coated for added durability. The frames are constructed from high-grade aluminium. The mesh is intricately woven to keep out flies, mosquitoes, and other pests, including dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, snakes, spiders, and lizards. Additionally, the mesh will not obstruct your view.

Types of Pet Screens

Pet mesh is available in the following applications:

Sash Screen Pet Screen

A sash screen consists of two panels—one fixed and the other sliding. The pet mesh is stretched tightly across both panels, creating a seal in front of the opening. Sash screens are suitable for windows, not doors, and are ideal for steel windows, though they can also be installed on wooden and aluminium windows. The sash screen operates either up and down or left to right, depending on the location of the window handle.

Solid-Hinged Pet Screen

In this application, the mesh is stretched across a rigid aluminium frame. Bullet hinges attach one side of the screen to your window or door, allowing the screen door to swing inward. A magnetic lock secures the screen to your window frame when closed. This design is suitable for both doors and windows, and extra mid-rails provide additional stability for the frames of solid-hinged door screens.

Solid-Slider Pet Screen

A solid slider pet screen features pet mesh stretched over an aluminium frame, similar to a sliding glass door. It runs on patio rollers in a track fixed to the floor, making it suitable for both doors and windows.
